Computer Music April 2005 Review

Fistful of Drummers (9 out of 10)

Drumdrops have rounded up a selection of fine drummers to produce this collection of over 400 drum breaks. All are inspired by classic 60s and 70s sounds; indeed, everything here was recorded using a 1970s Neve console, analogue tape and vintage hardware, and the sound is divine.

Loops range from 69 to 147 bpm- folders contain dry and effected drum loops, plus breaks, fills and percussion loops. Styles include rare groove, funk, old soul, bombastic 70s rock and early hip-hop, so if you want a good range of classic sounding drums, give this one a look.

Drumdrops in Dub Vol 1 (9 out of 10)

Compared to other genres, there arent many dub sample cd's. This collection of beats- put together in collaboration with dub drumming legend Style Scott- is well worth a listen. 30 drum tracks have been arranged into loops of 8 to 16 bars and grouped according to tempo. You also get individual drum hits, which is a genuinely useful bonus.

The sounds are as authentic as you could wish for, and feature classic 70s dub echo and reverb effects. There are also plenty of the pitched-up snare rolls that epitomise the reggae/dub sound.
